Does The Upside have an upside?

Recently there has been a resurgence of feel-good movies such as Instant Family, offering a wholesome movie for families. The most recent feel-good film to be released is The Upside. In this movie, Bryan Cranston portrays a quadriplegic down on his luck after his wife’s death. Kevin Hart plays an ex-felon who wants to overcome his lackluster reputation with his family in order to see his son. Cranston’s character needs to hire a “life auxiliary,” or caretaker. He disregards all qualified candidates in favor of Hart’s inexperienced character. They have a somewhat rocky relationship at first but grow to become friends.

Best and Worst Films of 2018

2018 was a year full of ups and downs for the entertainment industry. Superhero films seemed to reign supreme at the box office. Films centered around music fared well; some existing franchises disappointed at the box office. We saw multiple smaller films getting big releases and doing well. Avengers: Infinity War crossed the $2 billion mark, becoming the fourth highest grossing film of all time. So here is a conclusive list of films that I thought either shined or flopped this year.

The Crimes of Grindelwald picks up immediately after the first movie; after Newt Scamander successfully helped reprimand villainous Gellert Grindelwald. On his way from America to Europe, Grindelwald escapes. The dark wizard is on his way to France to search for Credence Barebone, an Obscurus who was previously thought to be dead. Albus Dumbledore, professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts, recruits Newt to find Credence before Grindelwald. The mission reunites Newt with Jacob Kowalski, Tina Goldstein, and Queenie Goldstein from the first film.

The House With a Clock in its Walls tells the story of ten-year-old Lewis Barnavelt, whose parents died in a car crash. He is sent to New Zebedee, Michigan to live with his estranged Uncle Jonathon. A lot of mystery surrounds both Jonathon and the house he lives in. Lewis is then swept into an adventure. There is a clock hidden somewhere in the house, put there by evil warlock Isaac Izard. Jonathon, Lewis, and the next-door neighbor, Florence, team up; they must find the clock before it’s too late.
